If you ever want to feel better about yourself, you can just read these pregnancy stories. Seriously. I have friends who tell me that all they craved their first trimester is salad and carrots. You want to know my diet? Oh here it is: fries, nerd ropes, blow pops, pizza, bread, panda express and everything that I avoided before my pregnancy. Seriously, if the baby wants it - it gets it. I throw up about 2-3 times a day. And if I eat the "wrong" thing - it's more like 5 times a day. But the weird thing is, I feel totally functional. I think I just expected worse case scenario which is crawling into the school throwing up with every step. So, knowing its only 2 or 3 times a day is completely bearable. I just have to eat what it tells me to and then gain a 60 pounds in the process.... yikes :/
But lets focus on the positive - like funny pregnancy stories! So I started getting sick around 6 weeks pregnant. The day the nausea hit big time was the day I was being observed by my principal (obviously this child has great timing). So I prefaced the kids and said, "If I run out the classroom, you automatically pull out a book and silent read until I return." The kids just nodded their heads with wide eyes. Well, I made it through the observation. Woot! Woot! But then lunch came.... and it went all down hill. I had a little boy who had to finish four problems from his previous nights homework during lunch recess. We will call him David. I sat their cringing the corner of my desk.
"Listen David, you can just go to recess," I said in my forgiving teacher voice.
"Oh but Mrs. Thompson, I am almost done! I just have four more. I will finish quickly."
I sighed and started rocking in my chair. I was trying to keep it together but I was going to loose it. I think I lasted 30 seconds.
"David, just go." I stated
"But Mrs. Thompson--,"
"David, I FORGIVE YOU! You have my forgiveness. Now turn in your homework quick and go out side. Your welcome!"
Because you know, he really needed to know he was forgiven and all. He grudgingly turned in his homework {which is crazy - I gave him a "get out of jail free card"} and ran into the teacher's lounge. But here is the problem. There was someone in the bathroom. So most people would - actually, I don't know what most people would do - all I know is that I lost it. There was another teacher in the room with me. She asked me if I was okay and this was my reply, "If that person does not come out of the bathroom in 30 seconds, I am going to throw down some cuss words real quick." Now you have to understand, I don't think I have ever cussed in my life. So you can imagine the poor teacher's face when she heard that. She slowly backed away and sympathized with my desire to use the restroom.
And then a miracle happened. The doors flew open about 10 seconds after I had said my threatening statement. I ran inside and shut the door. Afterwards, I walked out the bathroom and two teachers were staring there... looking at me strangely but not knowing what to say. Finally one asked, "Are you pregnant." Tears. Tears just start coming to my eyes as I ask, "How did you know?"
Oh teaching and being pregnant will be an adventure. But I just CAN NOT wait to tell my students. Seriously. I am dying to tell them. Just three more weeks and I can tell them.
We had our first doctor's appointment this week November 13, 2013. I have been waiting for this appointment for a looong time. I haven't really experienced any symptoms and so I have been extremely nervous about having a miscarriage. I said a lot of prayers and asked Heavenly Father to make me nauseas. I know... I can't believe I asked for that either. But he definitely answered my prayers that week. So I go in for my first doctors appointment and I am nine weeks along. I was extremely happy because I figured I would only have symptoms for about 3 more week which is perfect because teaching and being nauseas is, well, awful. So we go in there and they do that incredibly uncomfortable ultra sound. But I didn't care. I just wanted to see a little baby on the screen with a heartbeat. I seriously was holding my breath. After a few minutes of it being quiet in the room, I said, "So, is there a baby somewhere up there?" {I am a little awkward.} She told me that we were, in fact, looking at the baby right now. I perked up and asked, "Where?" about five times in a row {I am slightly impatient}. Then we saw the most beautiful grain of rice on the screen. It's heart was beating impeccably fast and I just squeezed Trent's hand. That is OUR baby. That grain of rice has a heart beat! It's so strong. For that baby to survive in my stressed out, constantly going at a 100 mph body it must be a beast.
Then, the ultrasound tech said, "Hmm.... well, your not as far as we thought you were." She then proceeded to tell me that I was 6 weeks along. 6 WEEKS. Can you believe it? 6 more weeks until I finish my first trimester. 6 more weeks of nausea and wanting to start crying every time a student draws me a picture of a flower. So... 6 weeks down and 6 more to go! Bring it on baby...
WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A BABY! Oh! I am so excited! I am writing this at 7 weeks along. We found out on Wednesday October 30th that we are expecting a little gem on June 22, 2014.
Let's start from the very beginning. I really really did not want to have a baby during the middle of a school year. Two or three weeks with my baby and then going back to work sounded like pure torture. How in the world could I leave my two week old baby? So I put a lot of pressure on getting pregnant thought it would be nice to become pregnant at a certain date so I could have the baby during the summer and not have to worry about going back two weeks later to finish the school year. So about two days before I was to start my period, I had a horrible cold. I wanted to drown myself in medicine so that I could recover before school on Monday. Yet, I knew that you shouldn't take ibuprofen or other types of medicine so I was hesitant. I woke up the next morning, Saturday, and begged Trent to come with me to the store to get a test. He immediately agreed and we headed off. I bought the test, took it right away, and it said negative. I was crushed. Seriously, I cried that entire day. I called my mom and cried, I cried to Trent, I just cried. Fast forward two days. I am over it...sorta. But I thought, well maybe I just took it too early. So the day of my period I took another pregnancy test. It was negative also. I didn't cry because I was expecting it. I was just putting myself through torture. Okay ladies, keep count. We are at two negative tests right now.
A week goes by and I still haven't started my period. So, obviously, I become hopeful again. Well, we are cruising through Wal-Mart and we just happen to be by the pregnancy tests. So I convince a very unwilling husband that it is imperative that we buy another package of pregnancy tests because I am so late. Finally, after mounds of persuasion he agrees. The next day I take the pregnancy test. I am a little more hopeful than usual considering the circumstances. However, it was really not meant to be because it again said negative. I take a sigh, call myself a few unkind words for being so hopeful, and move on. Well three days after that I still have not started and cannot stand having an unused pregnancy test in my house. Therefore, I take ANOTHER pregnancy test. I know. It is embarrassing and pathetic at this point. And what do you think it said... negative. The total count of pregnancy tests at this point is 4.
About a week and a half later, I am starting to feel queasy. Not nausea, but just a little queasy. I am also a little tender and I have started going to bed at 7:30 due to exhaustion. All signs that I thought meant that I was about to get a visit. But nothing came. I called my wise mother and asked her what she thought I should do. I am now three weeks late and completely confused. She suggested that I call the doctor because she suspected I had a cyst. She had experienced one before so it wouldn't be impossible for me to have one. Now, I am in full fledged panic mode. So I call a women's clinic and I ask for the soonest appointment which was about 4 days later. The longest 4 days of my life.
Fast forward through the longest pregnancy story ever to Wednesday. I walk into the doctor's office with Trent. We are immediately taken back into the room. The nurse pulls me aside and weighs me (hate that part), checks my pulse, blood pressure, and everything else. After I explained my reason for being here, she asked me if I wanted a pregnancy test done. I agreed and then sat in a waiting room for about 50 minutes. Trent and I actually just fell asleep. When the doctor came in, I repeated my story and said, "The nurse took a pregnancy test, but she never came back in." He looked surprised and said, "Oh she did? Let me go check." We waited for about a minute and when he came back in he said, "I love days like these." And he handed me a POSTIVE pregnancy test. You think I would have just started screaming for joy - finally a positive pregnancy test. But instead, I started telling the doctor that this wasn't my pregnancy test. After going back and forth for a few minutes, he finally convinced me that it was, in fact, my positive pregnancy test. I just started bawling and Trent started to tear up. His face was priceless. He just looked at me in the most sweetest, sincere way. It was definitely a very special moment finding out together.
So, the fifth time is the charm apparently. Five pregnancy tests later and we finally find out that we are pregnant. Except sometimes I don't really believe I'm pregnant. I almost bought a store pregnancy test to see if it would show up positive. But I figured 5 pregnancy tests is enough for one month ;). Our next appointment is on November 13th and we will be able to hear the heartbeat!
Things are changing for the Thompson home. The roles have switched and I am the provider while Trent is getting his education. Something that I support full-heartedly. This is all a huge change and change is still coming! It makes me think of my favorite things that are happening right now. I always find myself saying, "When I graduate..." "When Trent graduates..." "When we get a house..." "When... When... When..." It's what I have said since I was twelve. Always looking for the next thing. Driving, dating, and dances were always in my eye sight and mind. And now I wish I would have spent more time with my siblings and slowed down. I can't even tell you what I enjoyed when I was younger. Boys? Dating? I think that's it. I know I did other things, but I couldn't tell you what. So here is a post to my favorite things of now. There is always something to look forward too, but there are so many great things that are happening now that I don't want to forget.
1. I love that I have a husband who doesn't believe in "his" jobs and "her" jobs. This morning while I slept during the power outage, Trent folded the laundry, picked up the house, and did the dishes. I didn't have work today and could have easily done it. Instead, he saw a need and simply did it. I love that.
2. Our ward. This ward is simply the best. Seriously, all of us are poor. All of us are trying to get through school, work, and some of us are raising children in the process. But I have received 6 dinner invites in the last 3 weeks. I have had 2 dinner brought to my door in the last two weeks and every other day a treat is left at my door. I feel like I have a sign on my head that says, "I am drowning... HELP ME!" At first, I was embarrassed, but now I realize they are just listening to the Spirit and I am grateful for the overwhelming amount of love.
3. Holding hands with Trent as we sleep. I don't even know how this started, but Trent and I hold hands every time we fall asleep. I noticed it today when we took a nap. I don't even remember when it started, but I love it.
4. Taking naps whenever we please and just sleeping in general.
5. Teaching - I imagine it is somewhat like raising children. I just want the best for them. And sometimes I want to take their agency away and make the right choices for them. Watching them fail and struggle is heartbreaking, but watching their triumphs is breathtaking.
6. Friends - today our power was out and we were SO cold and bored. I slept. Trent cleaned. Then we just entertained ourselves by doing silly things. Finally, we decided we would go bug the Merrells down the way. We walked in and they were wrapped in blankets playing Phase 10. Of course we joined them. It was seriously so fun. We just laughed the entire time. And I won.
7. Trent being there any time I need him. Yesterday was a rough day, I just sat and cried at my desk after school. I called Trent hysterical around 2:30 and he was there moments later. Although I look forward to him having a career, I love that he can be there for me at a moments notice. Even if it is for something silly like a bad day.
8. Tender mercies of the Lord. I don't deserve them to be completely blunt and honest. I have not been the best daughter lately. But I am continually grateful for them.
9. Leaving when we want and going where we want. For Thanksgiving, we stayed in Rexburg. And we just hopped into our car and we were gone for two hours exploring. Strangely, we ended up at a cemetery. Slightly strange, I know. But I am fascinated with cemeteries so I made Trent stop and I walked around it and tried to read all the head stones. Life is so short. But the relationships we create here will last an eternity.
10. The past two and a half years strengthening our marriage. Sometimes I swear we are one mind. Sometimes I swear I don't know the man! But I swear, we could get through anything together {that's NOT a challenge Heavenly Father}!
